Theodor-Körner-Hut

The Theodor-Körner-Hütte sits at 1466m in the Berchtesgaden Alps, a solid base for hiking around the Watzmann massif and access to the Hochkalter. Reach it from Schellenberger Eis car park (near Berchtesgaden) in roughly 2.5 hours on marked trails. The hut works as either a destination or a waypoint on longer ridge walks through the northern Berchtesgaden range. Most routes here are hiking grade rather than scrambling—expect well-maintained paths with steep sections.
The hut is run by the DAV and sleeps around 60 people in a mix of dormitories and smaller rooms. The kitchen serves three meals daily plus packed lunches to order. Water comes from a spring nearby; the hut has basic toilets and no shower. It opens year-round but staffing and meal service are limited outside the main season (May to October). Winter visits require self-sufficiency and prior arrangement.
Book 4-6 weeks ahead for summer weekends and July-August. Contact the hut directly by phone (++49 8652 94380) or through the DAV website. July and weekends are busiest. The hut prefers advance notice even for midweek visits. Arrive early if walking in—the last supplies and hot meals are served by 19:00.
