Wimbachgrieshütte (Naturfreundehaus)

Wimbachgrieshütte sits at 1,327m in the Wimbachtal valley, a remote corner of the Berchtesgaden Alps southeast of Bad Reichenhall. Reach it from the Wimbach car park near Ramsau by walking 2 hours up the valley floor. The trail follows the Wimbach stream through forest and opens onto meadows as you approach the hut. This is serious hiking terrain—the valley narrows and the path stays close to water for most of the approach.

The hut holds 60 beds across 14 private rooms plus dormitory spaces. Meals are substantial: expect hearty Bavarian fare at dinner and a basic breakfast. Flush toilets are available; there are no showers. This is a working hut run by Naturfreunde Deutschlands, not a resort. Opening times vary by season—confirm before travel. The hut operates as a base for valley walks and for climbers heading into the surrounding limestone peaks. Winter access is problematic; ring ahead if planning a cold-season visit.
