About
Soiernhaus sits at 1,616m in the Wetterstein massif, on the eastern flank above the Leutasch valley. The hut sits on the main hiking route between Scharnitz and Mittenwald. From Scharnitz it takes 2–2.5 hours to reach the hut via the Leutascher Geierköpfl. The approach from Mittenwald is slightly longer at around 3 hours. Both routes gain roughly 700m elevation and are well-marked. The hut makes a natural overnight stop on the traverse of the Wetterstein, or a base for day hikes into the Soiernsattel and toward the Alpspitze.
The DAV-managed hut has 40 beds spread across dormitories, and offers a kitchen for self-catering guests as well as cooked meals and drinks. Flush toilets are available. There is no WiFi. The hut is staffed and open year-round, though conditions in winter and early spring require proper winter mountaineering skills to access safely. Phone ahead to confirm opening status during shoulder seasons.
Contact the hut directly by phone to book. Weekends and school holidays fill quickly—book at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August. The hut works on a first-come, first-served basis but will hold a bed if contacted by telephone. Half-board (bed and dinner) and full-board arrangements are available for groups.
