Wank-Haus

Wank-Haus sits at 1,780m on the Wank, a modest peak above Partenkirchen in the Wetterstein foothills. Reach it from Partenkirchen in 2.5 to 3 hours on a steady trail that climbs through mixed forest before opening onto alpine meadow. The cable car (Wankbahn) descends from the summit if your knees need mercy on the way down. This is a popular day-hike destination, so expect crowds on weekends and good-weather days.
The hut has capacity for around 60 guests and serves as a straightforward mountain refreshment stop rather than an overnight refuge. Meals focus on hearty Bavarian fare—soups, schnitzel, local cheese—and the kitchen handles dietary requests if you mention them when booking. Flush toilets are available. The hut operates year-round but is most reliable from May through October; winter conditions can force closures, so confirm before heading up in cold months. Staff are DAV-affiliated and know the local hiking network well.
Book directly by phone. Weekends and school holidays (especially July and August) fill quickly; aim to ring 2–3 days ahead for weekend visits. Weekday visits are easier to accommodate. The hut accepts cash and card payments. Since it's DAV-managed, DAV members receive small discounts on meals.
