AGV Drehmöser Hut

The AGV Drehmöser Hütte sits at 2,051m in the Wetterstein range, on the approach to the Drehmöser Alm meadow east of Mittenwald. Reach it from Mittenwald village (900m) by hiking the Loisach valley trail, taking 3–3.5 hours. The route climbs steadily through forest and opens onto alpine pasture as you gain elevation. In winter, access requires mountaineering skills and avalanche assessment. The hut is a DAV-affiliated facility run by the Alpenvereinsgruppe Garmisch-Partenkirchen (AGV).
The hut has 45 beds spread across two dormitories. Meals include a hearty breakfast, packed lunches on request, and evening meals featuring regional Bavarian cooking. Cold water runs; heating relies on a woodstove. The hut operates year-round, though snow can cut off access from December through March without proper preparation. Expect basic mountain accommodation—comfort is not the priority here. The meadow setting offers straightforward hiking to nearby summits and ridge walks into the Wetterstein proper.
Book directly by phone with the hut keeper well ahead, particularly for weekends and July–August. Winter booking requires confirmation that mountain conditions permit access.
