Alpine Dairy Confin / Malghe Cunfin

Malga Confin sits at 1,580m in the Carnian Alps of northeastern Friuli Venezia Giulia. Reach it from the village of Forni di Sopra via marked trail 401 in roughly 2 hours. The approach climbs steadily through beech forest before opening onto alpine pasture. The hut works well as a base for day walks across the Carnic watershed or as a stage on longer ridge traverses toward Zuc di Boor and the Gilberti plateau.

The malga operates as both a working dairy and hut accommodation. Beds run to around 30 across mixed dormitories. Half-board includes hearty mountain food and local cheese made on-site. The kitchen serves from early June through late September, depending on snow melt and autumn weather. WiFi is available if you need it. Staff speak Italian and some English. The hut has electricity and basic washing facilities; expect mountain simplicity, not comfort.

Email ahead at least 3 weeks during July and August. Phone ahead for May, June, and September bookings. July weekends fill quickly. The hut closes October through May. Small groups and solo hikers find space more easily on weekdays. Payment is cash or bank transfer—confirm methods when you book.
