Alpine Dairy Alpe Vago

Malga Alpe Vago sits at 1,680m on the Alpe Vago plateau in the Brescia Alps, Lombardy. Reach it from the village of Collio di Treviso via a 2-hour hike through mixed forest and pasture, gaining 450m. The route is straightforward and well-marked. In summer, a rough road gives vehicle access to within 20 minutes' walk of the hut, though most visitors arrive on foot.

This is a working alpine dairy (malga) that also welcomes hikers. The hut sleeps around 30 people in simple rooms. Meals centre on local dairy products and mountain cuisine—expect good cheese, butter, and hearty soups. The rifugio operates year-round but is busiest July through September and busier still on weekends. Water and electricity are reliable. Toilets are basic but functional.

Call ahead to book, especially for weekends and peak summer weeks. July and August fill 4–6 weeks in advance. The hut prefers phone contact over email. Arrive with realistic expectations: this is a working farm first, a hut second. The setting and food quality make it worth the straightforward approach hike.
