About
Locale Invernale sits at 2,090m on the Grivola massif in the Gran Paradiso range, Piedmont. Reach it from Pont in 5–6 hours, climbing steeply through forest then alpine pasture. The final push gains 900m of elevation on exposed terrain; scrambling experience helps. Most parties approach via the Rifugio Sella route, a longer but more established way up.
This is a winter shelter hut, not a staffed rifugio. It has 2 beds and basic emergency supplies. There's no running water, no meals, and no guardian. Bring a stove, fuel, sleeping bags and all your own food. The hut provides essential refuge during winter mountaineering on Grivola or for emergency shelter during summer traverses of the ridge. Winter access requires mountain sense; spring snow and iced terrain can block the route until June.
Contact CAI Boffalora directly before attempting a visit. The hut is extremely remote and unmanaged. Verify conditions with the CAI club—snow, rockfall and exposure change the route constantly. Winter parties should arrange their own supplies and assume self-rescue capability. Summer use is lighter but still requires independence and route-finding skill. No phone signal. Expect isolation.
