About

Baito Casera Vecchia sits at 1,752m on the eastern slopes of the Dolomites, accessible from the Val di Fassa valley. The approach takes 2.5 to 3 hours on foot from Campitello di Fassa. The route climbs steadily through larch forest, gaining 600m elevation before breaking into alpine meadow where the hut appears.
The hut is a working mountain dairy that also welcomes hikers and climbers. It has 20 beds split across simple rooms. Meals focus on local Ladin cuisine and use milk from the hut's own animals. The kitchen serves dinner and breakfast only; there's no lunch service. Water comes from a spring nearby. The season runs from June through September. In summer you'll share the hut with hikers crossing between the Fassa and Gardena valleys, but it remains quieter than the crowded Tre Cime circuit huts.
Book directly by phone or email at least two weeks ahead for July and August. June and September fill much less predictably. The hut has no WiFi and limited phone signal, so calling mid-morning is most reliable. Camping outside is not permitted. The closest alternative accommodation is Rifugio Fedare, 1.5 hours downhill toward Campitello.
