Bivouac Malga Cima
1.9Bivacco Malga Cima
Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy
About
Bivacco Malga Cima sits at 2,685m on the eastern rim of the Brenta Dolomites, accessed via the Val di Non valley from the north. The approach takes 2.5 hours from Malga Ritorto or 3 hours from Rifugio Nambino, following marked trails through larch forest and alpine meadow. The final pitch climbs steeply over scree and grass to the shelter. This is a working mountain hut, not a tourist destination—expect basic conditions and self-sufficiency.
The bivouac is a small stone shelter with sleeping space for roughly 12 people on bunk platforms. There is no water supply at the hut; bring what you need. No meals are served. The facility remains open from June through September, weather permitting. This is a staging point for climbers tackling the Brenta peaks (Cima Brenta, Cima d'Aut, Costabella) and hikers doing multi-day traverses. In good snow conditions, it provides access to ski mountaineering routes.
Contact the Consiglio di Valle office in Male or check with Rifugio Nambino for current conditions. The bivouac fills quickly during July and August; arrive early in the day or climb from the valley in one push. Winter access is difficult and requires avalanche assessment.
