About

Edelrauthütte sits at 2,545m in the Zillertal Alps above the Zillergrund valley in Trentino-Alto Adige. Most hikers approach from Mayrhofen via the Zillergrund road and the steep trail past Schlegeisspeicher dam—allow 3.5 to 4 hours for the 900m climb. The hut is also reachable from Brandberg in 3 hours via a less-crowded route. Both paths offer solid summer hiking.

The hut holds 70 beds across mostly 2- to 4-person rooms. Meals are hearty and focused on winter provisions in autumn and full menus in summer. Shower facilities exist but water can be limited in dry years. The hut operates year-round but is quietest November to April. Summer weekends fill fast. There's no electricity above 2,500m so don't expect plugs for devices, though solar battery charging is sometimes available.

Book direct by phone or email at least 6 to 8 weeks ahead for July and August. July is peak season—expect crowding and fully booked status by mid-June. June and September are better bets if your schedule allows. Winter mountaineers should call ahead to confirm staffing, as February and March see reduced operations depending on snow access. The hut does not use rifugi.net or CAI booking platforms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Book 2–3 weeks ahead for weekends during July and August; weekdays and shoulder season (June, September) need less notice. Call ahead or use rifugio.net/cai.it to check availability and reserve.
Open June through September for full staffing; verify current dates by phone or online as Alpine huts adjust for snow and weather. Winter climbing access is possible with prior arrangement.
From Mayrhofen via Zillergrund road and the steep trail past Schlegeisspeicher dam: 3.5–4 hours with 900m elevation gain. Alternatively, approach from Brandberg in 3 hours on a quieter route.
70 beds in 2- to 4-person rooms with hearty Alpine food; confirm shower availability and half-board options when booking, as facilities vary.
Suitable for fit hikers with solid endurance; the 900m climb from Zillergrund is steep and sustained, so families with younger children should consider the gentler Brandberg approach or build fitness first.
