About

Hochfeilerhütte stands at 2,710m in the Zillertal Alps on the border between Trentino and South Tyrol. Reach it from Fondo (valley floor) via the Ziller valley in roughly 4–5 hours. The hut is the standard basecamp for Hochfeiler (3,510m), the highest peak in the Zillertal range. Access is steep but well-marked; fit hikers manage it in one push from the valley. Winter snow closes the route reliably from November through May.

The hut has 80 beds in 20 rooms, mostly doubles and triples. Half-board is standard: dinner, bed, breakfast around €65–75. Cooking facilities are not available for guests. The kitchen serves Alpine fare—good goulash and strudel. Water comes from a spring on the mountain; shower facilities are basic but functional. The hut runs from late May to late September; July and August fill quickly with climbers gearing up for Hochfeiler and skiers/hikers heading to adjacent peaks.

Book directly by phone or email at least 6–8 weeks ahead for July and August. The hut manages its own reservations; no third-party booking site handles it. Arrive by mid-afternoon to secure a good dinner slot. June and September are quieter; you can usually book 2–3 weeks out. The hut sits on no major through-route, so day traffic is light—this is a destination hut for climbers, not a rest stop.
