Heiligkreuz-Hospitz

Heiligkreuz-Hospitz sits at 2,045m on the Zillertal ridge between the Zillertal and Ötztal valleys in Tyrol. Reach it from Mayrhofen in 4.5 hours via the Zillertal or from Ötztal in 3.5 hours—both routes are straightforward mountain trails without exposure. The hut marks a natural stopping point for traverses crossing the main ridge, or for loops combining either valley.
The hut has capacity for 60 guests in mixed and private rooms. Meals are straightforward: decent dinners, hearty breakfasts, packed lunches on request. Showers and toilets are standard. The hut operates year-round, though expect reduced facilities November to March. It functions both as an overnight stop and a lunch break for day hikers doing ridge traverses. The building is basic but reliable—don't expect luxury, but expect clean beds and hot food.
Book directly by email or phone at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August. June, September and early October fill 2-3 weeks out. Outside summer you can often walk in without reservation. The hut sits on the main east-west ridge traverse route, so Saturdays get busier than weekdays. Bring cash—card payment isn't always reliable at this elevation.
