About
Ücia Fodara Vedla (Rifugio Fodara Vedla, 1,966 m) occupies a green basin of larch and pine on the Sennes plateau in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park, in the municipality of San Vigilio di Marebbe, South Tyrol (province of Bolzano) — close to, but on the Bolzano side of, the border with Belluno's Cortina d'Ampezzo. The hut grew out of a First World War military barrack that master baker Hans Mutschlechner acquired in 1923; four generations later it is still privately run by the Mutschlechner family, today by Lorena and David together with their parents Frieda and Arthur. Rebuilt in 1980, it sleeps around 42 guests in pine-panelled rooms and small dorms, and its sunny terrace, playground meadows and tiny St Anthony chapel 50 m away make it one of the friendliest family stops in the Dolomites. Alta Via 1 hikers pass through between Rifugio Sennes and Pederü. The season runs from late May to early November; the easiest approach is the short climb from Pederü (1,548 m) on path 7 in about 1¼ hours, while path 9 arrives from Malga Ra Stua above Cortina in about 1½ hours. Kitchen classics are Ladin and South Tyrolean, with homemade dumplings and strudel.

Very much so. The walk from Pederü is short and on a broad track, the hut sits amid gentle alp meadows ideal for children, and private rooms with bathrooms are available alongside dorms — one of the easiest genuine hut experiences in the Dolomites.
A full kitchen serves warm Ladin and South Tyrolean meals (12:00–15:00 and 18:30–21:30) plus snacks through the afternoon. Overnight guests choose between en-suite rooms and multi-bed dorms with shared bathrooms; around 42 sleeping places in total.
