Bait de Folega

Bait de Folega sits at 2,285m in the Orobie Alps, accessed from the Valle di Scalve near Vilminore di Scalve in Lombardy. The standard approach takes 2.5 hours from Passo della Presolana (1,297m), following clear paths through mixed forest and alpine meadow. In summer, a rough road reaches closer to the hut, cutting the walk to 1.5 hours. Winter access is possible but requires full mountaineering equipment and avalanche awareness.
The hut is small, sleeping around 30 people in shared rooms. The kitchen serves substantial evening meals and packed lunches for onward trips. There's no shower, but water and basic washing facilities are available. The hut opens year-round but is quietest from November to April. It's a working base for ski touring, ice climbing, and summer ridge traverses of the Orobie chain. The surrounding peaks—Pizzo Scala, Punta Negra—are accessible as day trips or included in longer traverses.
