Cason d'Antruiles

Cason d'Antruiles sits at 1,525m in the Pyrenees, accessed via the Cirque de Gavarnie. From Gavarnie village, the trail climbs steadily through beech forest for roughly 1.5 hours to reach the hut. The approach is straightforward and well-marked, gaining about 500m elevation on a moderate gradient. This puts the hut in prime position for exploring the cirque's higher peaks and the network of trails radiating south toward the Spanish border.
The hut operates as a basic mountain refuge with capacity for around 20 guests. Meals are simple and filling—expect hearty soup, pasta, and local cheese. Staff prepare dinner if you book ahead; breakfast is available from early morning. Tap water runs cold and plentiful. The hut opens late June through September, depending on snow conditions. Sleeping is in dorms on basic mattresses; bring a sleeping bag or rent one on arrival. The toilets are outside.
Book directly by phone or email at least one week ahead, especially for weekends in July and August. The hut fills quickly during peak season. Day visitors are welcome if space allows, but overnight guests take priority. Expect to pay around €25–30 per night including dinner and breakfast. Cash only—there is no card reader.
