Rifugio Fonda Savio (2,367 m) sits in a rocky notch at the heart of the Cadini di Misurina, the forest of slender spires and towers rising south-east of Lake Misurina, in the municipality of Auronzo di Cadore, province of Belluno (Veneto). Owned by the CAI section XXX Ottobre of Trieste and run by the Pornbacher family, the hut is dedicated to the brothers Piero, Paolo and Sergio Fonda Savio - grandsons of the writer Italo Svevo - who died in the Second World War. It is the hub of the Cadini group: the celebrated Sentiero Bonacossa (trail 117) crosses right past the door on its ledge-and-gully traverse between Rifugio Col de Varda and Rifugio Auronzo, and the Via Ferrata Merlone climbs from nearby to Cima Cadin di Nord-Est. Long a base for Alpine-club climbing courses, it is equally loved by day hikers for its cooking - the strudel is famous. The hut offers about 40 sleeping places in beds and bunks and opens from roughly mid-June to the end of September. The shortest approach is trail 115 from Pian degli Spiriti on the Misurina-Tre Cime road, about 1 hour and 440 m of steady, occasionally steep ascent.

The hut is open from approximately 15 June to 30 September. Outside this window the Cadini di Misurina trails remain accessible but there is no staffed service, so summer-season visits are strongly recommended.
Park at Pian degli Spiriti on the Misurina-Tre Cime di Lavaredo road (just above Lake Antorno) and take trail 115 straight up to the hut - about 1 hour, 2.3 km and roughly 440 m of ascent on a well-maintained, steadily climbing and at times steep path.
The trail 115 ascent is short and non-technical, so reasonably fit families with children used to mountain walking reach the hut comfortably. The Sentiero Bonacossa beyond the hut, however, includes cabled via-ferrata sections and ladders - only take it with sure-footedness, a head for heights and ideally a ferrata set.
The Pornbacher family serves hearty mountain cooking with a particular reputation for homemade strudel, on a terrace surrounded by the Cadini spires. Accommodation is simple: about 20 beds and 20 bunk places, shared washrooms, and the friendly atmosphere of a hut that has hosted climbing courses for decades.
