Rifugio Auronzo (2,333 m) stands on the broad Forcella Longeres shoulder at the southern base of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, in the Sesto Dolomites within the municipality of Auronzo di Cadore, province of Belluno (Veneto). Owned by the Auronzo section of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), it is the rare Dolomites hut you can drive to: a roughly 9 km toll road climbs from Lake Misurina to the large car park beside the hut, which is why it serves as the starting point of the world-famous Tre Cime circuit on trail 101 and the finish of the Sentiero Bonacossa across the Cadini di Misurina. The terrace looks south over the Cadini spires, Lake Misurina, the Marmarole and Sorapiss. Inside there are 99 sleeping places in 25 rooms of two to six beds, plus a full restaurant and bar. The hut operates from late May to October while the road is open, with weekend bar-restaurant service in winter, when it is reached on foot, snowshoes or skis from Misurina. Walkers can also arrive from Lake Antorno on trail 101 in about 1.5 hours or from Val Marzon on trail 104 in about 4 hours.

The main season runs from late May to October, matching the opening of the Misurina-Tre Cime toll road. In winter the hut offers weekend-only bar and restaurant service for visitors arriving on foot, snowshoes or ski from Lake Misurina or Lake Antorno.
Drive the paved toll road from Lake Misurina (about 9 km, roughly 30 minutes from Cortina d'Ampezzo or Alta Pusteria) straight to the car park at the hut - no hiking required. In high summer the road and car park can reach capacity early in the morning, so arrive before 8 am or use the shuttle buses from Misurina and Dobbiaco.
Yes - it is one of the most family-friendly bases in the Dolomites. You park at the door, and the classic walk to Rifugio Lavaredo and Forcella Lavaredo on trail 101 is wide, nearly level gravel that children and casual walkers manage easily. The full Tre Cime loop (about 10 km, 3.5-4 hours) is also non-technical in good conditions.
The hut runs a full restaurant and bar with Cadore and Italian mountain cooking, plus a large sun terrace facing the Cadini di Misurina. Accommodation is in 25 rooms with 2-6 beds (99 places in total), a step up in comfort from typical dormitory-style refuges.
