Rifugio Larin

Rifugio Larin sits at 1,213m in the Carnian Alps, accessible via the Ghedina Valley approach near Forni di Sopra. Reach the hut in 2.5 to 3 hours from the valley floor on a well-marked trail that gains roughly 500m elevation. The location works as a base for day walks into the surrounding limestone terrain or as a waypoint on longer ridge traverses across the region. The hut itself sits above the treeline with views across the Carnic range.
The rifugio accommodates 40 people in mixed and private rooms. Half-board is standard (dinner and breakfast included). The kitchen produces solid mountain food—pasta, polenta, local cheeses. Hot showers are available. The hut runs from June through September, with weekend service possible outside peak season. Staff speak Italian and basic English. No mobile signal reaches the hut reliably.
Book directly by phone or email at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Solo hikers often find space on short notice during weekdays. The hut is closed October through May. Cash and bank transfer are the payment methods; confirm current rates when you contact them. Arrival before 18:00 ensures you eat with other guests.
