Fählenalp

Fählenalp sits at 1,457m on the eastern side of the Liechtenstein Alps, anchoring the middle section of the Liechtenstein Alpine trail that runs north-south through the principality. Reach it from Steg in 2.5 hours or from Vaduz in around 4 hours. Both routes climb steadily through forested terrain before opening onto alpine meadows. The hut serves as a natural break point for multi-day traverses and accesses ridgeline walks toward the Drei Schwestern and connections into the Appenzell Alps.
Fählenalp accommodates 35 people in dorm rooms and a handful of private beds. The kitchen serves substantial evening meals and a basic breakfast. No shower facilities—bring a towel and accept the mountain experience. The hut operates year-round but expect reduced staffing and services from November through March; contact ahead for winter stays. LAV members receive standard Alpine hut discounts.
Book directly with the hut keeper by phone or email at least 2 weeks ahead during July and August. July weekends and mid-August fill quickly. The hut's isolation and modest capacity mean you'll share space with serious hikers, not tourists—conversation over dinner often covers route conditions and the next day's weather. Winter ascents bring ice axes and crampons; summer brings families tackling the Liechtenstein trail section by section.
