Bivacco Oscar Piusi

Bivacco Oscar Piusi sits at 1460m on the southern slopes of the Julian Alps, accessible from the Krn valley near Tolmin. Hike in 2.5–3 hours from Planina pri Jezeru, following marked trails through beech forest that open onto alpine pasture. The bivouac works as a base for scrambles to Krn (1876m) and traverses toward Kanin, or as a waypoint on longer ridge routes. Weather and snow cover determine exact approach conditions; check conditions locally before heading in.
This is a basic mountain bivouac, not a staffed hut. It offers shelter, sleeping space for roughly a dozen people on wooden platforms, and a simple stove for cooking. There is no running water or electricity. You must bring everything you need: sleeping bag, stove fuel, food, water containers. The bivouac operates year-round, but winter access requires mountaineering skills and avalanche awareness. Spring through autumn is reliably accessible for hikers with basic scrambling experience.
This is an unmanned refuge. There is no formal booking system. Leave a donation if you use it. The hut is maintained by the PZS (Planinska zveza Slovenije), and local mountaineering clubs in the Tolmin area manage repairs. Respect the space and leave it as you found it—this is a shared resource for mountain users. Go with experienced partners if you're unfamiliar with bivouac travel.
