About

Koča pri slapu Mostnice (732 m) sits at the head of the Voje valley above the village of Stara Fužina at Lake Bohinj, inside Triglav National Park in Slovenia's Julian Alps. The hut stands just a couple of minutes below Slap Mostnice — also known as the Voje waterfall — a single-plume fall of around 21 m that marks the start of the Voje alpine pasture, and upstream of the celebrated Mostnica gorge (Korita Mostnice), whose limestone channels narrow to shoulder width in places.
This is a day hut, not an overnight refuge: a simple, privately run refreshment stop with bench seating rather than a staffed alpine club hut with dormitories. It operates seasonally, open daily through the warmer months and closed in winter, serving hearty Slovenian home cooking — the waterfall huts here are known for štruklji (rolled dumplings), jota and žganci, sour milk and home-baked cakes. The nearest beds are down-valley at Planinska koča na Vojah (690 m), run by PD Srednja vas v Bohinju.
Most visitors walk in from Stara Fužina, about 5 km each way: either through the Mostnica gorge past Hudičev most (Devil's Bridge), where a path-maintenance fee is collected from April to October (free with the Julian Alps: Bohinj card), or along the fee-free valley track. Paid parking is in Stara Fužina. The hut also makes a natural pause on the classic route from Bohinj towards Velo polje, Vodnikov dom and Triglav.

Access Routes

From Stara Fužina via the Mostnica gorge (Hudičev most)

2h Easy

Cross Hudičev most (Devil's Bridge) above the gorge and follow the riverside path up the Voje valley past Planinska koča na Vojah to the hut and waterfall, about 5 km each way. A path-maintenance fee is charged at the gorge entrance from April to October (free with the Julian Alps: Bohinj card).

From Stara Fužina via the Voje valley track

1h Easy

The valley track climbs gently up Voje without entering the fee-charging gorge section, rejoining the riverside route below the hut. A good option for families and for the return leg of a circular walk.

From Planinska koča na Vojah

0h Easy

An easy stroll up the flat upper Voje valley from the PZS hut at 690 m, following the Mostnica to the head of the valley where the hut sits just below the waterfall.

Frequently Asked Questions

Start in Stara Fužina, the village at the north-east corner of Lake Bohinj (paid car park; bus stops Stara Fužina and Stara Fužina–Vorenčkojca). Walk up the Voje valley either through the Mostnica gorge via Hudičev most (Devil's Bridge) or along the valley track that bypasses the gorge. It is roughly 5 km and 1.5–2 hours each way on well-marked, mostly flat and shaded paths, with the waterfall a few minutes beyond the hut.
It is a seasonal refreshment hut, open daily through the warmer part of the year — roughly spring to late autumn, weather permitting — and closed in winter. The Mostnica gorge entrance fee is likewise only collected between April and October; in winter the gorge path may be icy and is used at your own risk.
Expect simple, home-cooked Slovenian fare: the refreshment huts at the Voje waterfall are known for štruklji (rolled dumplings), jota (barley and bean stew), žganci, sour milk, strudel and home-baked cakes, along with hot and cold drinks. Seating is largely outdoors and toilets are available for customers. Bring cash — the gorge fee below the hut is also cash-only.
Yes — this is one of the most popular easy walks in Bohinj. The trail is well marked, mostly flat and shaded, with only two short steeper pulls (one out of the gorge to the Voje hut, one up to the waterfall). Cycling is not permitted on the gorge path itself, but families can use the valley track instead, and the gorge section is a designated walking trail within Triglav National Park.
No — it is a day hut serving food and drink only, with no beds. The nearest overnight option is Planinska koča na Vojah (690 m), about 45 minutes back down the valley, a PZS hut run by PD Srednja vas v Bohinju that sleeps around 40 and is open daily from mid-April to mid-October (weekends and holidays in winter). Higher up the Triglav route, Vodnikov dom na Velem polju (1,817 m) also offers accommodation.
