Kosijev Lodge na Vogarju

Kosijev Dom na Vogarju sits at 1054m on Vogarjev vrh in the Julian Alps, making it an accessible base for hikers exploring the Kamniška Bistrica valley. The hut lies 7km northeast of Kamnik. Most hikers reach it via the Kamniška Bistrica gorge trail, a popular route that takes roughly 2.5 hours from the car park at the gorge entrance. The approach is well-marked and moderately steep but straightforward.

The hut holds 63 beds across multiple rooms and serves as a working base rather than a destination summit shelter. PZS and its Ljubljana mountaineering section (PD Železničar Ljubljana) manage the facility. Hot meals are available when staffed, along with basic drinks and snacks. The hut operates year-round but staffing varies seasonally—winter weekends are reliably open, weekdays less so. Check status before heading up in winter. Summer season (June to September) means consistent daily opening. A small solar installation supplements mains power, and the hut has running water and basic toilet facilities.

Book directly by phone or email with the manager. Weekend capacity fills during summer, particularly in July and August—contact at least 2-3 weeks ahead for these periods. Weekday visits require less advance notice. Winter bookings should confirm staffing 3-4 days in advance, especially midweek. The hut is popular with local day-hikers and weekend parties from Ljubljana, so arriving early in the day gives you the best chance of a bed during peak season.
