Planinski Lodge na Poreznu

Planinski Dom na Poreznu sits at 1585m on the slopes of Porezna (1634m) in the western Julian Alps. The hut serves as a base for traverses between the Cerkno and Tolmin valleys. Most hikers approach from Cerkno village (about 1 hour by car from Ljubljana): follow the marked trail from Planina Porezna, which takes 2.5 hours to reach the hut. Alternatively, approach from the south via Tolmin valley routes—allow 3–4 hours depending on your starting point. The walking is steady uphill but not technical.

The hut is small and simple, with capacity for around 30 people. Meals are served daily during the season—expect traditional Slovenian fare cooked on site. Bedding and blankets are provided; bring a sleeping bag liner. There is no WiFi and no mobile signal is reliable here. The hut opens year-round but staffing is variable in winter; phone ahead before December–February visits. Water comes from a reliable spring. The location works well for 2–3 day loops combining Porezna with neighboring peaks like Poldanovec or descents toward Tolmin.

Book through PZS (the Alpine Association of Slovenia) or contact PD Cerkno directly. July and August fill weekends quickly—book 3–4 weeks ahead for summer. Winter visits require confirmation with the manager. The hut is family-friendly and popular with Slovenian weekend hikers, so expect company on fair-weather Saturdays and Sundays.
