Planinski Lodge pri Krnskih Jezerih

Planinski Dom pri Krnskih Jezerih sits at 1,385m in the Julian Alps, on the edge of the Krn Lakes plateau. Reach it from Tolmin via the Tolminc Gorge—a 4-hour hike gaining 900m vertically. Most hikers approach via Kobarid or from the Krn mountain hut route. The location makes it a natural base for walking to the five glacier-fed lakes that define this area. Summer is busy; expect crowds July and August. Winter access depends on snow conditions and weather.

The lodge holds 146 beds across shared rooms. PZS and the Nova Gorica climbing club manage it. Hot meals are served daily; bring sleeping sheets or pay the rental fee. The hut has no WiFi—expect no phone signal either. Running water and toilets are available; showers cost extra. The season runs year-round, though winter staffing is limited. Book directly by phone to confirm availability and winter opening dates before traveling. Phone ahead also to check water access and heating during shoulder seasons.

This is serious mountain accommodation, not a hotel. The Krn Lakes draw mountaineers and hikers aiming for the surrounding peaks: Krn, Bogatin, and Škrlatica are all within reach. The hut fills quickly during summer weekends and school holidays. Book 2–3 months ahead for July and August weekends.
