Poštarski Lodge na Vršiču

Poštarski Dom na Vršiču sits at 1688m on the Vršič Pass road in the Julian Alps. The hut stands on the main route between Kranjska Gora and Bovec—you can drive to within 50m of the building. On foot, most hikers reach it in 3–4 hours from Kranjska Gora via the Vršič Pass trail (2042m). The location makes it a natural base for ridge walks along the Jalovec and Razor ranges, or for descents toward Lake Bovec.

The lodge holds 66 beds across multiple rooms. It serves meals daily and stocks basic provisions. The hut operates year-round, though access during winter depends on road conditions at Vršič Pass. Water and toilet facilities are reliable. The staff speak Slovenian and basic English.

Arrive early in the day if you're dropping in without a reservation—beds fill quickly on weekends. The hut is a working mountain crossing point, not a dead-end destination, so traffic through the building can be constant on good weather days.
