Tičarjev Lodge na Vršiču

Tičarjev Dom sits at 1,620m on Vršič pass in the Julian Alps, the main crossing between the Soča valley and the Triglav National Park interior. The hut stands directly on the Vršič road, making it accessible by car, but most hikers arrive on foot. The approach from Bovec takes 3–4 hours via the steep zigzag path that climbs 900m through forest and open terrain. From the hut, you can reach Triglav (2,864m) in a full day, or traverse to nearby peaks like Jalovec (2,645m) in 4–5 hours.
The lodge offers 60 beds across basic double and multi-bed rooms, all with shared bathrooms. Half-board and full-board meals are available; the kitchen emphasizes solid mountain food. The hut operates year-round, though services are reduced in winter. Mobile signal is weak, and there's no electricity beyond essential lighting, so expect a genuine mountain experience. Managed by PZS (Planinska zveza Slovenije) and the local Jesenice hiking club.
Book directly by email or phone at least 2 weeks ahead, especially for summer weekends and school holidays from June through September. July and August are busiest. The hut fills quickly on Fridays and Saturdays during the hiking season. Winter conditions may require specialized equipment; check conditions before attempting access in December through February.
