Stjenkova Hut na Trstelju

Stjenkova Koča na Trstelju sits at 610m in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, on the slopes above the Trsteljevo Polje valley. The hut serves as a base for day hikes through the lower Julian foothills and approaches to higher peaks. Most hikers reach it from the village of Trštelje in 1.5 to 2 hours on marked trails. The location is accessible year-round by car, with parking near the trailhead.
The hut offers basic mountain hospitality with sleeping capacity for around 20 people in mixed dormitory rooms. Meals include hearty Slovenian fare—soups, local cheese, bread, and meat dishes. Hot drinks are always available. The hut operates year-round but confirm opening hours before visiting in winter. Toilets are outside. There is no shower. The hut is run by local PZS volunteers who know the surrounding trails well.
Contact the hut directly by phone before your visit. Book ahead for weekends and public holidays, especially in summer and autumn. Single-night visits without advance notice may not be possible during busy periods. The hut is popular with local hikers and school groups, so expect it to be crowded on Saturdays.
