Hut Antona Bavčerja na Čavnu

Koča Antona Bavčerja na Čavnu sits at 1,242m on Čavno, a forested ridge in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The hut is a base for circuits through beech and spruce forests and access to higher peaks in the range. You can reach it from Kamniška Bistrica via the village of Koprivnik in roughly 3 hours on a clear trail. From Ljubljana it's 45 minutes by car to the trailhead. The approach is moderate—no scrambling, steady elevation gain through typical Alpine forest.
The hut manages 40 beds split between private rooms and dormitories. Half-board is standard (dinner and breakfast included). The kitchen serves hearty mountain fare and can accommodate vegetarian diets with notice. There's no WiFi, so this is genuinely a disconnect. The hut operates year-round but is quietest October through April. Winter access depends on snow conditions and avalanche risk—contact ahead if you're planning a winter visit. Weekday visits in shoulder seasons (April-May, September-October) rarely require more than a few days' notice.
