Jarški Lodge na Mali Planini

Jarški Dom sits at 1,520m on Mali Planina in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Reach it from the village of Jamnik in 2 to 2.5 hours on a well-marked trail that climbs steadily through beech forest and alpine meadow. The hut serves as a base for exploring the Mali Planina plateau, popular with day-hikers and those crossing between valleys. The approach is straightforward terrain, suitable for anyone with basic hill fitness.

The lodge is a traditional stone building with 35 beds split across several rooms. Meals focus on simple mountain fare: hearty soups, local meat dishes, and basic vegetarian options. The kitchen can prepare packed lunches for onward hikes. A small dining room doubles as a social space. Water comes from a spring; toilets are outside. The hut runs year-round but is quieter November through March. Staff speak Slovenian and basic English. Check current opening dates before traveling in winter.

Contact the hut directly by phone to book. Weekends fill quickly from May to September, especially in July and August; book at least 4 to 6 weeks ahead for summer visits. Groups of 10 or more should call well in advance. The Mali Planina circuit—a popular loop connecting several huts and villages—means beds can be scarce mid-week too if conditions are good.
