About

Kamniška koča na Kamniškem sedlu stands at 1,864 m just below the Kamnik Saddle (Kamniško sedlo) in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps of northern Slovenia, close to the Austrian border. Set on the sunny southern flank of the saddle between the peaks of Brana and Planjava, above the Kamniška Bistrica valley, it is one of the busiest and most strategically placed huts in the range. Owned by Planinsko društvo Kamnik and part of the Slovenian Alpine Association (PZS), it serves as a hub for crossing the Kamniško sedlo and for ascending the surrounding summits — Planjava (2,394 m), Brana (2,252 m), Turska gora (2,251 m) and Ojstrica (2,350 m). The hut is large, offering 56 beds across nine rooms plus around 40 places in shared dormitories, a 12-person winter room, and a dining room seating roughly 120. It is permanently staffed from mid-June to mid-October, and at fine weekends outside that window. The classic approach climbs from the Kamniška Bistrica valley in about 3.5 hours; a steeper northern route comes up from Okrešelj in the Logar Valley.
