About

Planinski Dom na Kumu sits at 1,211m on Kum in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Approach from Kamnik via the village of Nevlje, then follow marked trails through beech forest for around 2.5 hours. Most hikers reach it as a base for traversing the ridge to Veliki Vrh (1,844m) or descending to Ojstrica. The location works equally well as a starting point for longer ridge walks into the heart of the range.

The lodge is run by the PZS and offers 40–50 beds in mixed dormitory rooms. A kitchen provides simple evening meals and packed lunches if ordered ahead. Hot showers are available. The hut operates year-round but is busier in summer (June–September) and during winter weekends when snow-shoeing hikers use it as a base. Water comes from a spring nearby; in dry spells, supplies are trucked in.

Book in advance for July and August, especially weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone or through the PZS website. Weekend capacity fills quickly. The lodge manager can advise on current trail conditions and weather. Winter access depends on snow depth; confirm before travelling in December–March.
