About

Koča na Pesku sits at 1,382m on the Pohorje plateau in the Pohorje Mountains, a gentler range east of the Julian Alps popular for ridge walking and forest trails. The hut is reached in 2–2.5 hours on foot from the village of Ribnica na Pohorju, following marked paths through beech and spruce forest. Most hikers approach from the northeast via the marked trail from Slovenska Bistrica or from the south via Radovljica. The location makes it a natural base for exploring the Pohorje watershed and connecting to longer ridge walks toward Rogla or Krvavec.
The hut offers beds for around 40 guests in mixed dormitory rooms. Meals are simple and hearty—expect soups, stews, and local specialities. Water is available. The hut operates year-round but is busiest on weekends from May through September and during school holidays. Winter access depends on snow conditions; contact ahead if visiting November through March. It is not a modern facility, but that suits the quiet, forested character of the Pohorje.
Book directly with the hut for groups of 8 or more. Weekends and July–August fill quickly; aim to book 2–3 weeks ahead for summer weekends. The hut can usually accommodate walk-ins on weekdays outside school holidays. Bring cash; card payment options are limited. The PZS manages maintained trails to and from the hut.
