Gozdarska Koča Šumik sits at 1,100m on the Pohorje plateau in northeastern Slovenia. The lodge is accessible on foot from Logarska dolina (Logarski Valley), a 45-minute walk through mixed forest. Most hikers approach via the marked trail from Solčava, which takes around 2 hours from the valley floor. The hut also connects to the broader Pohorje network, linking shorter walks to nearby peaks and ridges. Trails here roll rather than climb steeply, making this corner of the Alps accessible for families and those easing into mountain hiking.

The lodge operates as a simple forester's shelter with basic sleeping accommodation and a small dining area. It serves as a working forest station rather than a full-service mountain hut, so expect functional rather than extensive facilities. Meals and drinks are available when the keeper is present. The hut typically operates May through October, though conditions on Pohorje can close access earlier or later than the Julian Alps. Check ahead before planning a winter visit. Accommodation is dormitory-style with limited capacity—around 10 beds—making it intimate rather than crowded.

Book directly by phone with the keeper before arriving. Pohorje draws steady day-hiker traffic, especially weekends, but overnight demand remains modest.
