Planinski Lodge na Šmohorju

Planinski Dom na Šmohorju sits at 784m on the forested slopes of Šmohor in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The hut lies on the main route between Kamnik and the higher peaks of the range. From Kamnik town, follow the marked trail through beech forest for 2.5 hours to reach the lodge. The approach is steady and well-maintained, gaining 400m elevation. If you're coming from Ojstrica or continuing toward Turska gora, the hut works as a convenient waypoint on longer traverses.

The lodge has 80 beds across multiple rooms and serves hearty Slovenian meals. The kitchen provides hot food at lunch and dinner during open season. Basic facilities include running water and a drying room for wet gear. The hut runs year-round, though you should check conditions before winter visits. It's managed by the PZS and maintains the standard Alpine hut setup: simple, functional, focused on feeding hikers and getting them back on the trail.

Book ahead during July and August, especially for weekends. Contact the hut directly through the PZS website or call ahead to confirm availability. The lodge fills quickly on summer Saturdays when day-hikers from Kamnik make it an easy afternoon stop. Outside summer months, booking is less critical, but still sensible if you're arriving by early evening.
