About

Chäserli sits at 1057m in the Emmental valley, a quieter corner of the Bernese Oberland that most hut-baggers skip. Drive to Trub or hike from Langnau (3 hours); the approach is pastoral rather than alpine, following streams and forest tracks through dairy country. The hut makes a solid base for day walks in the region, particularly loops around Napf (1408m) to the south and trails north toward Entlebuch. Access is straightforward but not dramatic—expect farmland and mixed woodland rather than peaks.

The hut operates year-round as a simple guesthouse with 20 beds in basic dorm rooms and a handful of doubles. Meals focus on local Emmental food: cheese, bread, and substantial hiker portions. Hot showers work. The SAC doesn't operate Chäserli, so standards differ from mountain huts higher up; call it more village inn than alpine refuge. Summer weekends fill quickly with families on easy walks and local hikers doing day loops. Winter is quiet.

Book directly by phone or email at least two weeks ahead for weekends; July and August need more notice. The hut isn't a destination in itself but cuts costs and adds flexibility if you're hiking Emmental trails over several days. Langnau train station (on the Lucerne–Burgdorf line) sits 9km away by road.
