About

Dossenhütte sits at 2,663m on the eastern flank of the Dossenhorn in the Bernese Oberland. The main approach takes 3 hours from Gsteig via Saanenmöser and the Saanen valley. From the north, hikers can reach it in 2.5 hours from Lenk via the Iffigpass route. The hut is accessible to experienced alpine walkers from June through October, though snow patches persist into July on the upper sections.

The hut accommodates 51 guests in shared dormitories. Meals are available daily during the season, with reliable tap water from the mountain spring. There are no showers, so expect basic alpine accommodation. The location makes it a solid waypoint on longer traverses across the Bernese highlands, or a base for day walks to the Dossenhorn (2,937m) and neighboring peaks. Cell service is unreliable, so plan accordingly.

Book directly with the SAC-managed hut by email or phone. July and August fill 6-8 weeks in advance on weekends. Weekday visits in June, September, and October have more availability. Expect a guardian on-site throughout the season. The hut enforces a two-night minimum stay during peak periods on weekends.
