About

Glecksteinhütte sits at 2,316m on the north side of the Wetterhorn in the Bernese Oberland. Most hikers reach it from Grindelwald via the Schwarzwaldalp, a steep but direct route taking 3.5 to 4 hours. The trail is well-marked and busy in summer. Other approaches come from Rosenlaui or via longer ridge routes from neighboring huts. The location makes it a solid base for climbs on the Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn, and surrounding peaks, or for traversing between major hut systems in the area.
The SAC-managed hut has 88 beds across multiple rooms. Hot meals are served daily during the season, and a self-catering kitchen is available for those bringing their own food. Water is on tap. The hut operates year-round, though conditions are serious in winter and spring. Facilities are standard for a working alpine hut—expect basic comfort, good ventilation, and reliable service.
Book directly by email or phone. July and August fill 4 to 6 weeks ahead. June and September are easier to access but weather is less stable. Winter ascents require advance coordination with the hut. If you arrive without a booking, ask staff about last-minute availability, though count on sleeping on the kitchen floor if the hut is full. The Schwarzwaldalp approach gets crowded on weekends, so aim for weekday departure if possible.
