Rinderalphütte

Rinderalphütte sits at 1703m in the Bernese Oberland, serving as a base for hiking the rolling pasture country and lower alpine terrain around the Rinderhüfi and surrounding ridges. Reach the hut from Eggental (30 minutes from Interlaken by train) via a 1.5-hour hike from Egg, gaining 400m. The route follows good trails through beech forest and pasture. Alternative access from Beatenbucht on the south shore of Thunersee is also possible but requires more time.

The SAC-managed hut offers simple mountain hospitality in a working alpine setting. It sleeps around 40 guests in dormitory beds. Meals include hot dinners, breakfast, and packed lunch options—request these when booking. The hut has running water and basic sanitation. It operates year-round, though staffing levels are lower in winter months; confirm opening hours ahead of cold-season visits. This is hiking country rather than climbing terrain; the hut works well as a night stop on multi-day tours of the lower Bernese ranges or as a weekend refuge for Interlaken-based hikers wanting to escape the busier hut circuit.

Book directly by phone or email with the hut keeper. July and August weekends fill weeks in advance; book at least 3-4 weeks ahead for summer. Shoulder seasons (May-June, September) are quieter. Winter visits require advance coordination since the hut may operate on limited hours or be unstaffed on certain days. Bring cash for payment; mobile coverage is reliable at this elevation.
