Untere Gantrischhütte

Untere Gantrischhütte sits at 1510m on the north slope of Gantrisch in the Bernese Oberland. Most hikers approach from Rüeggisberg, a village on the Bern-Thun rail line. The walk takes 2.5 hours through beech forest and alpine pasture. Alternative starting points include Guggisberg (2 hours) and Biglen (2.5 hours). The hut works as a base for day walks on Gantrisch or as a stopping point on longer routes through the region.
The hut holds about 50 people in dormitory rooms. It serves hot meals and packed lunches. Water comes from a spring. The hut opens year-round but operates on weekends only from November to March. In summer months expect crowds on Friday and Saturday nights. The hut has no shower facilities. Mobile reception is unreliable at this location.
