Wusta

Wusta sits at 1,366m in the Bernese Oberland, above the village of Grindelwald. Reach it from Grindelwald-Grund (the lower end of the village, not the main town center) by hiking a steady trail that climbs 500m in about 2 hours. The path is well-marked and straightforward, making it accessible for fit hikers on a day trip or as a starting point for longer routes into the Eiger-Jungfrau massif.

The hut is a modest farmhouse-style operation serving hikers and day-trippers. It offers drinks, coffee, tea, and simple food—expect rösti, cheese and cured meats, and soups rather than full restaurant meals. There are no overnight beds; Wusta functions as a lunch stop and rest point. It's open year-round (though weather can restrict access in winter) and sits on multiple hiking networks linking Grindelwald to higher passes and ridges.

The location makes it useful as a waypoint rather than a destination. From here you can continue uphill to Eiger Gletscher or traverse across to Schwarzwaldalp. Most visitors reach it as a 2-hour hike out and back from Grindelwald-Grund. No advance booking is needed since it doesn't offer accommodation, though calling ahead (contact through local Grindelwald tourism) is sensible if you're planning a large group visit or want to confirm what food is available.
