Jagdhaus "Laubberg"

Jagdhaus Laubberg sits at 1,450m on the Laubberg plateau in the Appenzell Alps, roughly 90 minutes' hiking from Säntis. The approach works from multiple directions: most hikers come via Meglisalp (2.5 hours from Brülisau trailhead) or from Schäfler in the east (2 hours). The hut perches on open alpine meadow with views across the northeastern Swiss Alps toward Appenzell and Vorarlberg. Winter access requires snowshoes or skis.
The hut has 40 beds split across simple dormitories and a few double rooms. SAC members get preferential rates; non-members pay slightly more. Meals are standard Alpine fare—hearty soups, pasta, local cheese. Drinking water and flush toilets are available; showers are not. The hut opens year-round, though winter weekends fill quickly. Management maintains the building for hiking and ski touring traffic, not casual visitors.
Book directly by phone or email as far ahead as possible during summer. July weekends are completely booked by May. Winter weekends on powder days fill within days of good snow forecasts. Midweek slots in June, September, and October are easiest to secure on short notice. Confirm your arrival time when booking—the hut is staffed daylight hours but accommodates walkins with prior warning.
