Waldhütte Herrliberg

Waldhütte Herrliberg sits at 1,305m on the forested slopes above Herrliberg, on the north shore of the Zürichsee. The hut is a 1.5-hour walk from Herrliberg village, accessible via the forest trail that climbs steadily from the lakeside. Most hikers arrive from the train station at Herrliberg (S6 from Zürich Hauptbahnhof takes 25 minutes), then follow marked paths uphill through beech and fir forest.

The hut has 40 beds in mixed dormitories and serves as a solid base for ridge walks in the Albis and Zimmerberg ranges. Drinking water and flush toilets are available. Meals are served during open hours. The hut operates year-round, though staffing is minimal in winter months—check ahead if visiting November to March. It functions primarily as a day-hut, so evening meals and overnight stays depend on advance notice.

Weekend visits in good weather draw local day-hikers, so book at least one week ahead for Friday and Saturday nights. Weekday stays are usually easier to arrange. The hut is popular with families and walking groups from the Zürich area, not mountaineers undertaking major Alpine routes.
