Waldhütte Männedorf

Waldhütte Männedorf sits at 900m in the Säntis region of northeastern Central Switzerland, within easy reach of Zurich. The hut stands in beech forest above the village of Männedorf on the northern flank of the Appenzell Alps. Reach it in 90 minutes on foot from Männedorf village or 2 hours from the Gibswil trailhead to the south. The approach climbs steadily through woodland but involves no scrambling or technical terrain.
The hut accommodates 130 people across multiple dormitory rooms, making it a solid base for groups and hiking clubs. Meals are available on request. Running water and flush toilets are standard. The location works well for day walks across the local ridge network and as a staging point for longer traverses toward Säntis (2,502m) to the east. The hut operates year-round, though snow can make winter access unreliable.
Book by email directly with the hut management. Summer weekends fill quickly between June and September, so contact the hut at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August. Winter visits require advance notice to confirm heating and staffing. The hut is managed independently, not by the Swiss Alpine Club, so confirm current opening dates before traveling.
