About

Alp Dadens sits at 1,820m in the Glarus Alps, accessible from the Sardona region. Reach it from Elm village (900m) via the Dadens valley in 2 hours, following a well-marked but steep trail that gains 900m. The hut is also reachable from Fadän in 1.5 hours for a shorter approach. Snow can block access from November through April.

The SAC-managed hut offers 50 beds in simple dormitory rooms. Meals centre on hearty Swiss mountain fare—expect home-cooked dinners and substantial breakfasts. The kitchen is equipped for self-catering if you bring your own food. Water comes from the spring outside. The hut has no electricity or shower facilities, and toilets are basic. It operates year-round but staffing is minimal in winter; call ahead if visiting December to March.

Book directly by phone well ahead for summer weekends. July and August fill quickly, especially during school holidays—aim for 2–3 weeks notice minimum. Shoulder seasons (June, September) offer better availability. The hut accepts payment in cash only. Note the remote location and basic facilities suit hikers comfortable with alpine simplicity, not those seeking comfort or convenience.
