Alpina Hut

Alpina Hut sits at 2,581m in the Prättigau valley of Graubünden, a base for ridge walks and peak ascents in the Säntis massif. Reach it from Schruns in Austria via Partenen (90 minutes by car), then a 2.5-hour hike up the Silvrettal valley. Alternatively, approach from the Swiss side via Gamperdona (1.5 hours walking) or the longer route from Gargellan. The hut works best as part of a multi-day traverse rather than a single-destination trip.

The hut offers 50 beds across dormitory and small private rooms. Hot meals focus on hearty Alpine fare; bring a headtorch for the dormitories. Water comes from the valley spring. Opening runs from mid-June through September, though exact dates depend on snow conditions—call ahead before your trip. The hut sits on the Swiss-Austrian border, so routes here are sometimes used for hut-to-hut circuits into Austrian territory.

Book directly by phone or email at least 3-4 weeks ahead for July and August. The hut fills quickly during school holidays and long weekends. June and September offer quieter conditions with the same views and terrain. Arrive by late afternoon to secure a hot meal; the guardian can arrange packed lunches for early starts. Payment in Swiss francs or euros at the hut.
