Alp Languard

Alp Languard sits at 2,349m in the Languard valley above Pontresina in the Engadin valley. The easiest approach follows the marked trail from Pontresina village (1,805m), climbing steadily through larch forest for 2.5 hours. Stronger hikers can start from Alp Languard Sud (2,159m), reached by cable car from Pontresina, cutting the walk to 30 minutes. The hut serves as a base for ridge traverses to Piz Languard (3,262m) and access to the Languard glacier, typical alpine terrain with some exposure on the ridge.
Alp Languard operates as a SAC hut with 40 dorm beds and basic private rooms. The kitchen serves breakfast, lunch, and a substantial three-course dinner. Water comes from the mountain spring. Toilets are functional but basic. The hut sits in a high meadow with views east toward Piz Bernina. Opening runs from mid-June through September, though this varies by season. Winter access requires mountaineering skills and is not standard.
Book 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August. Contact the hut directly by phone or email through the official SAC hut portal. Weekend slots fill by Thursday. The cable car operates until early evening, making same-day descent feasible if you prefer not to overnight. Weather can turn rapidly at this elevation; the hut closes if access becomes unsafe.
