Calandahütte

Calandahütte sits at 2,073m in the Calanda massif between the Prättigau and Schanfigg valleys in Graubünden. The hut is reached from Jenaz in the Prättigau. From the village, follow the trail toward Alp Calanda—allow 3 to 3.5 hours walking time, gaining roughly 900m elevation. The route crosses open alpine meadows with views across the Appenzell Alps. In winter and early spring, avalanche terrain requires careful route-finding or the hut may be inaccessible.
The hut holds 29 beds split between shared dormitories. SAC members receive discounts on accommodation. The guardian serves simple meals and snacks; bring any special dietary requirements to their attention when booking. Drinking water is available on-site. Calandahütte operates as a spring-to-autumn hut; it closes through winter. The location works well as a base for day walks across the Calanda ridge or as an overnight stop on ridge traverses. The hut also serves hikers crossing between the Prättigau and Schanfigg.
Book accommodation directly by email or phone, particularly for July and August when the hut fills quickly—aim to contact the guardian at least 4 weeks ahead during summer. Weekend slots in July and August often require 6 to 8 weeks' notice. Outside peak season, booking 2 weeks ahead is usually sufficient. Confirm opening dates with the hut before planning a spring or autumn visit.
