About

Capanna Da L'Albigna sits at 2,336m in the Albigna valley, deep in the granite peaks between Chiavenna and the Bregaglia. The hut is reachable from Prestone in the south (3–4 hours) or from the north via Val Bregaglia. Most hikers approach from Prestone, following the valley trail past Alpe di Albigna to the hut. The route gains 1,100m steadily but without steep scrambling. In winter and early spring, avalanche risk closes the approach, so check conditions before departure.
The CAS manages this 88-bed hut as a base for granite climbing and peak walking in the region. The hut serves full meals in the dining room or offers a self-catering kitchen if you bring your own supplies. Drinking water comes from the valley stream. Beds are in shared rooms. The hut opens mid-June through September; exact dates shift with snow conditions. Winter opening is possible but rare—contact the hut directly to confirm availability outside summer.
Book accommodation by email or phone at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August. July and early August are busy with Italian and Swiss climbers on the nearby peaks. Weekends fill faster than weekdays. The hut prefers advance payment to confirm your reservation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Book at least 2–3 months ahead for July and August; email or call directly since this is a smaller hut with 88 beds.
Capanna Da L'Albigna is typically open June to October; check with the hut before visiting outside these months, and avoid winter due to avalanche risk on the approach.
From Prestone (south), follow the valley trail past Alpe di Albigna for 3–4 hours, gaining 1,100m steadily with no steep scrambling; the northern approach via Val Bregaglia is also possible.
Meals are served at the hut, or you can use the self-catering kitchen; drinking water is available on-site.
Not ideal for beginners—the 1,100m gain and 3–4 hour approach require solid fitness, though the route itself has no technical scrambling; this is better suited to experienced hikers tackling mountaineering objectives.
