About

Chamanna Cluozza sits at 1882m in the Val Cluozza, deep in the Macun plateau region of the Engadin Valley. The hut is managed by the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC). Most hikers reach it from Zernez via the Val Cluozza valley trail, a 5–6 hour walk that gains 800m steadily but never steeply. An alternative approach from the Macun Lakes (Lais da Macun) takes 3–4 hours. The hut's position makes it ideal for exploring the high plateau with its alpine lakes and wildflower meadows, or as a base for traverses toward the Engadin or Val Müstair.
The hut has 61 beds in mixed dormitories and a few double rooms. Staff serve hot meals (usually three courses) and provide packed lunches on request. Drinking water comes from the spring. The hut runs from mid-June to early October. This elevation and exposure mean weather changes fast—come prepared for wind and sudden cold. The hut has no shower or heating beyond the stove, so expect basic mountain accommodation.
Book directly by email or phone at least 6 weeks ahead for July and August. June and September fill less quickly but still warrant early reservation. The hut is popular with SAC members and day hikers from the Engadin, so weekend demand runs high year-round during the season. Phone and email contacts are on the SAC website for Chamanna Cluozza.
